East Chicago is a city in Lake County, Indiana. The population was 32,414 at the 2000 census.

East Chicago is located at 41°38′20″N 87°27′44″W (41.638885, -87.462140)[3].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.6 square miles (40.5 km²), of which, 12.0 square miles (31.0 km²) of it is land and 3.7 square miles (9.5 km²) of it (23.35%) is water.

    Who would go to a "resort" in the middle of this catastrophically polluted, post apocalyptic industrial slag land? If you've ever ridden the Amtrak through this area and seen what it's actually like, you would know that the idea of a resort here is completely bizarre. Aside from, I don't know, Chernobyl, this area is probably the greatest ecological disaster area in the world. Nice place for a holiday (ha ha ha).

    Closed May 2008, Company moved production to new plant in louisiana. Over 600 workers lost jobs.

    The images here are pictures I shot from the bridge in the early 1990s. The Inland steel company had cranes on the southern shore that moved ore from barges anchored on the channel. The cranes and associated buildings were dismantled.
